That’s been the message proven by the voting stats below.
We find it quite ironic that the State and OHA itself has been somewhat derelict in educating/informing the general statewide voting population that it has the ‘power’ to vote for OHA Trustee seats regardless of ethnic origin; party affiliation or other ‘normal’ barriers.
POINT: We thought that this MOST IMPORTANT that there is a little known VOTING opportunity is a ‘SLEEPER’ public interest story that earns and yearns attention.
The State/OHA job it is to inform the general population, indeed, the qualified Statewide Voting public of their RIGHT to VOTE!
46% or 156,709 of the 256,000+ were BLANK VOTES!
That being the case, why can’t Native Hawaiians have our OWN VOTE like it was when OHA was created if there is no interest to vote or people are not informed? This us a ‘Catch-22′
The US Constitution, US Supreme Court, US Amendments 14 & 15 was created to help the BLACK peoples, former slaves, to be able to vote after the American Civil War. Ironically it’s being used against Hawaiians in the 2009 contested case Rice v Cayetano to STYMIE our OHA ELECTIONS!
